2022 Lincoln Aviator: the best-kept secret

When you have a secret, you want to keep it. At Lincoln, we want to tell you about it. That secret is the Lincoln Aviator, a mid-size luxury crossover that combines driving pleasure, luxury and sophistication. For 2022, the vehicle changes little. There is no need to change what has already made the Lincoln Aviator so successful.

The Aviator is the large three-row vehicle that stands out for its presence, its engines and the exceptional refinement of its interior. Now, building on the brand's prestigious past, Lincoln is looking to the future, blending technology and sophistication in the Aviator.

Power to go

Under the hood, the Lincoln Aviator hides a base 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that produces 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.

Its base engine is more powerful than most of its competitors' engines. To get all that power to the wheels, it's married to a 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard.

The big find, however, is the plug-in hybrid version of the Lincoln Aviator. Called Grand Touring, this mechanical combination combines flexibility, economy and power. It produces 494 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. But it adds to that a small electric motor and a 13.5 kWh battery that gives it a 100% electric range of some 34 kilometres.

In less than 3 hours, the battery is fully charged, and the Aviator averages 10.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined, an exceptional performance in this category. And because the power is there, the luxury crossover can reach 100 kilometres per hour in under 5.5 seconds.

The good news is that this configuration does not prevent the Lincoln Aviator from playing its role as a utility vehicle. In addition to its all-wheel drive, it can offer a towing capacity of 2,540 kilos with the right combination of options. The dynamic suspension and its various settings also allow you to modulate the type of driving and adapt it to the type of surface.

A refined interior

The interior of the Aviator is a true sanctuary. It's a place where you can enjoy a comfortable and quiet ride, but also a wealth of technology designed to make your stay onboard more comfortable.

In terms of technology, every 2022 Aviator comes standard with a 10-inch touchscreen mounted high on the dash. It works with the Lincoln version of Ford's SYNC interface, among the most advanced and easy-to-use on the market. The car also comes standard with 4G WiFi, Apple Car Play, Android Auto and two USB ports.

A 14-speaker Revel Ultima 3D audio system, integrated navigation and wireless charging, as well as a head-up display, 360-degree parking camera and the ability to use your phone as a car key, are also features offered by this great Aviator.

This technology also translates to safety and connectivity, as the Lincoln Aviator has the Lincoln Co-Pilot360 1.5 Plus package, a grouping of the most effective driving aids. Of the number, intelligent cruise control, lane-keeping and reverse brake assist are just the basics.

What's new for 2022?

The changes are slight for the 2022 Aviator. Wireless charging, head-up display and phone as key are now on the menu. There's also a new monochromatic package that adds black wheels and replaces glossy elements with body-colour trim.

As refined and imposing as ever, the Lincoln Aviator offers more in the way of sophistication and technology. With its plug-in hybrid version, it is more than ever the one that will make your life comfortable while being environmentally conscious.
